It’s been a while since I last logged into my Substack account. I’ve been pretty much going non stop since early April running the Urban Hotdog Collective food truck. It has been a lot of work but worth it. I got a lot of “this is the best hotdog I’ve ever had” comments this summer and I still have a lot of work and progress to make in bringing this concept to it’s full potential.
My teenage boys worked on the truck quite a bit this summer and became my most qualified employees. I always tried to treat them as regular employees but I think the reality was closer to, I cut them some slack or they didn’t take it quite as seriously because it’s just “Dad”. I have a much deeper understanding of what it looks like to employ your kids. I know I will look back on this summer and wish I could do it again. It was great spending time with my boys and watching them take the next step into becoming functional adults.
So what now? I am looking forward to taking the truck out less and getting back to a wider variety of culinary adventures. You can expect the Sunday Soup Series to restart soon. I always get the soup bug as the weather begins to shift into the cooler days and nights. I will also be focusing on more private dinner parties and custom menus for the holidays. I need to engage my creative food chops again as well as get back to my writing. I am definitely feeling a bit run down and need to get back to those things that fill my soul.
Stay tuned for more as I make the shift into winter. The next couple weeks are still pretty busy with the truck as I bring German inspired food to big Oktoberfest celebrations.
Hi Paolo! I am also excited to celebrate Fall by making soup for my family. I can’t wait for your soup recipes and your wonderful stories.
I’m so glad you got to spend the summer working with your boys. All 3 of you will have fond memories of that time. They grow up fast - we have to take these small opportunities when they come.
I really enjoyed your substack from today!
Keep busy but don’t forget about your fan base!
Love, Mom Your biggest fan!!!
